What is Trauma? Trauma is an emotional response to an event like an accident, a loss, rape or natural disaster. Immediately after the event – shock and denial are typical. Longer term reactions include unpredictable emotions, flashbacks, strained relationships and even physical symptoms like headaches or nausea. While these feelings are normal, some people have difficulty moving on with their lives or have triggers that cause emotional reactions that may hold them back from living a healthy life. It can overwhelm an individual’s ability to cope, causes feelings of helplessness, diminishes their sense of self and their ability to feel a full range of emotions and experiences.

Trauma can go deep into a person, causing major disruptions in behaviour, emotions and quality of life. It can also lead to many other health complication.
